21 Behold, these many years we have suffered in the wilderness, which time we might have enjoyed our possessions and the land of our inheritance; yea, and we might have been happy.
I have heard so many people express the fact that wealth
cannot buy happiness. Maybe in the case of Laman and Lemuel it could. More
likely, however, they had romanticized their memory of the life of ease and
luxury they may have enjoyed before this journey. They seem to be equating
hardship with unhappiness, when the real culprit is sin and transgression.
Righteousness buys happiness, and “wickedness never was happiness” (Alma
41:10).
