8 And thus my father had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord which had been given unto him. And also, I, Nephi, had been blessed of the Lord exceedingly.
The commandments referred to in this verse included the ones
to leave Jerusalem, retrieve the brass plates, and fetch wives for his sons.
The record up to this point has detailed how those commandments were kept. Of
course, Nephi played a key role in the family accomplishing each of them, so he
“had been blessed of the Lord exceedingly.” Interestingly, Nephi took a beating
at the hands of his brothers on two of those trips. And yet he still considers
himself blessed exceedingly. This is an example of a good attitude. Many
Christians are glad to suffer for their testimonies.
