1 Nephi 4:1

1 And it came to pass that I spake unto my brethren, saying: Let us go up again unto Jerusalem, and let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; for behold he is mightier than all the earth, then why not mightier than Laban and his fifty, yea, or even than his tens of thousands?

Nephi apparently never loses sight of 1) the mission, and 2) his faith in the power of God and that through that power man can accomplish great things and keep any commandment the Lord gives him. Nephi's big faith is that if we keep the commandments, or if we desire to keep the commandments and do our best to do so, the Lord will provide a way for us to do it, no matter how impossible the odds (1 Nephi 3:7). Genesis 18:14 asks the rhetorical question, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” And really there isn’t anything too hard for the Lord. The scriptures are full of stories where through the Lord the “underdog” wins. In fact, He seems to delight in accomplishing His purpose through the weak things of the world. I’m reminded of David and Goliath, and also Moses going up against Pharaoh and winning Israel’s freedom for examples. Sometimes He seems to purposely stack the odds against His people. One example of that is when the Lord had Gideon reduce his army to only 300 to win Israel’s freedom from the Mideonites (Judges ch. 7). Or Elijah challenging the priests of Baal (1 Kings 18:17—39). The Lord wants to ensure that people know who should get the credit for these victories, so He creates seemingly impossible odds. (1 Corinthians 1:27—29) He wants to be sure we don’t begin to boast in our own strength (Mormon 3:9).
