1 Nephi 4:2

2 Therefore let us go up; let us be strong like unto Moses; for he truly spake unto the waters of the Red Sea and they divided hither and thither, and our fathers came through, out of captivity, on dry ground, and the armies of Pharaoh did follow and were drowned in the waters of the Red Sea.
I wonder if the exodus of the Children of Israel out of Egypt has been replaced yet as the most significant moment of their history. Certainly it had not been at this point in the Book of Mormon. Nephi often refers to how the Lord stepped in and helped the Children of Israel escape from Egypt. In particular the parting of the Red Sea is mentioned as evidence that the Lord can do anything. Nephi here, citing the Red Sea incident as evidence or inspiration, encourages his brethren to be strong like unto Moses. What kind of strength? Spiritual strength. Faith. This is one of Moses’ greatest legacies. In spite of all kinds of opposition and adversity, Moses was a pillar of spiritual strength. In Proverbs 24:10 we read, “If [we] faint in the day of adversity, [our] strength is small.” How do we increase our spiritual strength and faith in the Lord? Maybe the best answer to that is found in D&C 121:45 (41—46). Nephi seems to have had these qualities of charity and virtue, which gave him strength. Laman and Lemuel were sadly lacking in both qualities. This is also mentioned in Moroni 8:16, where Mormon says that “perfect love casteth out all fear.” As I develop my qualities of charity and love and virtue, I will also become stronger “like unto Moses,” and my confidence before God and man will increase.
